The Turkish occupation aircraft's bombing of oil stations caused crude oil to leak into the waters of the Jaqjaq River in Qamishlo, which posed a threat to health, the environment, cultivated areas, and livestock that depend on the river's water in the region.

The Tal Barak district council in Jazera Cantonn formed an emergency committee, in coordination with the Agriculture and Irrigation Body and the Water Resources Office in the Autonomous Administration, to establish floating barriers on the Jaqjaq River passing through the district, to clean the water.

During the work on establishing the barriers, the district council made a statement, which was read by the co-chair of the council, Simav Atta, in the presence of male and female members of civil society institutions.

The statement reads, "For several months, the Turkish occupation state has been bombing economic facilities and infrastructure in the region, in addition to bombing oil wells and pipelines, which led to the leakage of crude oil into the waters of the rivers adjacent to those wells."

The statement added: “Accordingly, we, the Tal Barak district council and its institutions from the Directorate of Agriculture and Municipalities, in cooperation with the people, farmers and communes, carried out voluntary work and according to the available capabilities to reduce the damage resulting from the oil leakage, we placed traps on the riverbed to stop and collect the oil in order to transport it to the landfill and dispose of it or return it to the Rimalan Oil Company for recycling.”

The statement called for the necessity of uniting in the face of the Turkish occupation to thwart its plans and defeat any aggression against the region.
