KCK: Turkey launches occupation attacks with Baghdad's approval, KDP's support 

The Co-Chairs of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) issued a statement regarding the increasing Turkish occupation attacks on S. Kurdistan, It reads:

“The Turkish state's occupation attacks on S. Kurdistan have increased, and for this purpose, intensive military reinforcements are being sent towards S. Kurdistan. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is opening official routes for the Turkish occupation army and handing over control of areas where the Turkish army is present completely to the Turkish army, to the extent that the Turkish occupation army has set up checkpoints wherever it is located. This indicates that as the Turkish state expands its occupation attacks, it is gradually taking over the administration of S. Kurdistan.

 A new and dangerous situation

The reinforcement of ammunition and soldiers, including armored vehicles, taking place through official routes openly, indicates that an agreement has been reached. Until now, occupation attacks have been supported secretly by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and the Turkish state launched occupation attacks despite the opposition of the Iraqi state, relying on the support it received from the KDP. However, now the attack is being carried out with the permission and approval of the Iraqi government, and the KDP is openly supporting the occupation. This is a new and dangerous situation, and we draw attention to this dangerous situation. At the same time, we warn and call on our people and the democratic public to be cautious and responsible.

The Iraqi government is involved in occupation and genocide policies

The authoritarian Turkish occupying state, which has failed to confront the resistance of our movement and our people, is trying to involve more forces in its concept of extermination and genocide to be able to annihilate the Kurds. One of these forces is the Iraqi state. Seeing that the support of the KDP was not sufficient to occupy S. Kurdistan, the Turkish state has been trying to bring the Iraqi state to its side. The Turkish state received severe blows from the Guerrillas, especially in the fall and winter of 2023, and realized this fact after these blows. Since then, efforts have been made to involve the Iraqi state in its concept of genocide and occupation.

The fascist leader Tayyip Erdogan visited Iraq in April for this purpose. Unfortunately, the Iraqi government could not stand firmly against the pressures of the Turkish state and got involved in occupation and genocide policies through the agreements made. Our movement has been declared a banned organization in Iraq, which concretely highlights this fact. Otherwise, why would a movement that has always had friendly and supportive relations with the Iraqi state and the Iraqi people be declared a banned organization by the Iraqi government? How can this be explained or justified? The Iraqi government is enhancing economic relations and others under some pretexts, claiming that these agreements are not for this purpose. However, this rhetoric and behavior of the Iraqi government are not true. We expressed this at the time and stated that the Turkish occupation state wanted to start a dangerous phase with the participation of the Iraqi government, and we warned all concerned forces and circles. Now, we see that this matter is being implemented step by step, and the new occupation attacks on S. Kurdistan reveal that agreements have been made based on the concept of genocide against our people.

Iraqis should take this danger seriously

We know that not all people in Iraq are in favor of the dirty agreements made with the Turkish state. Many democratic and national forces in Iraq see that the relations established with the Turkish state don't align with Iraq's interests and don't approve of these existing relations. Unfortunately, the Iraqi state, under the current Iraqi government, is getting involved in the concept against our people and our movement and is not showing a strong stance against it. This constitutes a serious shortcoming for Iraq and, at the same time, poses a serious danger. Therefore, a stronger political stance must be shown to end these relations that are not in the interest of Iraq. The relations established by the Iraqi government with the Turkish state are certainly not in the interest of the Iraqi state and its people. The increasing occupation attacks on S. Kurdistan are proof of this. It is important for all Iraqis to see this reality, and Iraqi intellectuals, in particular, should rise against these tendencies that disrupt the atmosphere of brotherhood and inform Iraqi society about this issue.
