The co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Avin Suwaid, spoke to ANHA's agency about the initiative launched by the Democratic Autonomous Administration to resolve the Syrian crisis, consisting of 9 items, on April 18, 2023.

Avin Suwaid said: “The meetings taking place between the Autonomous Administration and the Damascus government concern some practical matters,” and she added: “These meetings do not rise to a level where they constitute a serious step to find a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with the aspirations and hopes of the Syrians.”

Avin Suwaid described the meetings as still "immature."

The Democratic Autonomous Administration Initiative sent a call to Arab countries to play an active role in resolving the Syrian crisis. In this context, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria explained that they held meetings with most Arab countries in this context, "but we did not obtain the results we aspired to."

Avin Suwaid criticized the Damascus government's negative response to all the efforts made by the Democratic Autonomous Administration and some Arab countries to resolve the Syrian crisis.

She noted that the initiative launched by the Autonomous Administration was not directed only to the Damascus government, but rather to all Syrian parties wishing to find a real solution to the Syrian crisis.

Efforts to unify the ranks of the national opposition

Avin Suwaid stated that the Democratic Autonomous Administration met with Syrian forces and parties before and after the launch of the initiative, but she explained that those meetings did not achieve the desired result, and she continued: “Some local and regional forces evaluated this initiative positively, but we were not able to unite the ranks of the opposition to negotiate with the Damascus government.” Under a unified banner.

Avin Suwaid added: “There are efforts to form national unity and unify the democratic forces to put more pressure on the Damascus government.”

There is no economic agreement without a political solution

Regarding the wealth in North and East Syria, Avin Suwaid reaffirmed the Democratic Autonomous Administration that it is the national property of all Syrians, but it stipulated that a political agreement be obtained with the Damascus government leading to a fair and equal distribution of wealth.

At a time when there is increasing talk about pressure on Syrian refugees in neighboring countries, Avin Suwaid confirmed that the position of the Democratic Autonomous Administration is firm regarding its readiness to receive Syrian refugees and IDPs persons until a solution to the Syrian crisis is found and a dignified return is secured for them to their places of origin.

The Autonomous Administration is ready to move jointly with Damascus to end the Turkish occupation

With the repeated Turkish threats and attacks on northern and eastern Syria and the growing talk about Turkish preparations to launch large-scale attacks on Syria, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria expressed the Autonomous Administration’s readiness: “to sit at the negotiating table and dialogue with the Damascus government in order to liberate every inch of the usurped Syrian lands,” she explained: “We reiterate that returning every Syrian individual with his dignity to his home is a national task that falls on the responsibility of all the people of Syria.”

Avin Suwaid emphasized that the goal of the Autonomous Administration is to preserve the sovereignty and unity of Syrian lands.

At a time when the Middle East region faces the possibility of expanding the scope of existing conflicts, especially with the start of the war between Hamas and Israel last October 7, and the entry of international and regional parties into these conflicts, Avin Suwaid noted that the Autonomous Administration has made great efforts and conducted extensive diplomatic rounds to spare War zone.

Avin Suwaid said: "The Autonomous Administration made every effort diplomatically and politically with all regional and international parties to break the intensity of external threats to North and East Syria."

The solution to the Syrian crisis must be among the Syrians

Avin Suwaid affirmed that the Autonomous Administration continues its readiness to deal with any emergency situations, and called on: “All parties concerned with the Syrian issue to meet at one table to reach a political solution, and build a free society and a decentralized, democratic Syria.”she stressed that the solution is “Syrian.”
