The Kurdistan Democratic Party authorities continue to conceal the fate of journalist Suleiman Ahmed, who was kidnapped 189 days ago, despite all attempts by lawyers to hold a meeting with their client. The team of lawyers for the editor of the Arabic section of Roj News Agency, Suleiman Ahmed, went yesterday, to Asayish prison in Dohuk to hold a meeting with their client, but they refused to let the lawyers meet again with Suleiman Ahmed and work on his case.

Suleiman Ahmed's lawyer visited the Dohuk prison of the Kurdistan Democratic Asayish based on the promise made by the Human Rights Committee in Dohuk, which agreed to meet with Suleiman Ahmed, but security officials violated the orders of the Human Rights Commission and did not allow the lawyer to see Suleiman Ahmed.

Suleiman Ahmed’s lawyer, Rêvank Yassin, spoke to Roj News Agency about the matter, and said: “Today, the Human Rights Commission went to Dohuk Prison and told them that Suleiman Ahmed is here. They told me to go, they will let you meet Suleiman Ahmed, but when I went, they did not allow me to see him.”

Rêvank continued; “I waited from 9:30 to 14:00 so that I could visit Suleiman Ahmed. I tried a lot but they didn’t let me to meet him. Therefore, I once again informed the Dohuk Human Rights Commission that the Dohuk police did not allow me to meet my client. In this regard, the Human Rights Commission said “That they will return and go to Dohuk prison tomorrow and will obtain permission to meet with Suleiman Ahmed.”

Regarding whether permission to meet Suleiman Ahmed was not granted to his lawyer today,  lawyer Rêvank Yassin said: “If the Human Rights Commission dose not get us a permission and does not work seriously on this file, we will announce our position in front of the Kurdish and international public opinion in a press conference and prove that the Commission was unable to do anything.”

Journalist Suleiman, who works as an editor for Roj News Agency, went to visit his family in the city of Aleppo on October 1, 2023, after the death of his father, Muhammad Ahmed. During his return from Syria and at the Fish Khabur crossing, he was kidnapped by the KDP authorities, and lost contact with him 189 days ago despite all  demands and calls for his release.
