Lawyers: demand to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan is legal, humanitarian right
Lawyers affirmed that the demand to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan is not an emotional desire, but a legal and humanitarian call, considering that this demand transcends politics to become a moral appeal reflecting the essence of justice in the face of isolation.

With the beginning of March 2024, coinciding with prominent symbolic occasions such as International Women's Day (March 8), Nowruz (March 21), and the birthday of leader Abdullah Ocalan (April 4), the campaign entered its second phase, which was accompanied by a noticeable increase in popular and political support for it.
Following the historic call made by the leader on February 27 of this year, titled "Peace and the Democratic Society," the campaign is preparing to enter its third phase, which will soon be launched under the slogan: "I want to meet with Leader Abdullah Ocalan."
The demand to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan is a legal and humanitarian right.
In this context, ANHA's agency conducted an interview with several lawyers specializing in detainee affairs in the city of al-Hasakah in al- Jazira region of North and East Syria, to shed light on the legal and humanitarian dimensions of this demand.
Lawyer Kawa Fattami said: "We must recognize that leader Abdullah Ocalan now represents the will of tens of millions of people in the Middle East, especially the oppressed Kurdish people, thanks to his new political thought and peaceful proposals aimed at solving humanity's problems."
He pointed out that "the upcoming campaign is not isolated, but rather an extension of a series of campaigns that began in October 2023, which have contributed to stirring global public opinion and have made their way onto political discussion tables, especially in the corridors of the European Union. This popular and political pressure led the Turkish authorities to allow his lawyer to visit him and check on his legal status."
Fattami pointed out that "the file of political prisoners in Turkey, and the file of leader Abdullah Ocalan in particular, is complicated and thorny, as he was arrested in ways that violate the law, with the help of global intelligence agencies, which constitutes a clear breach of fair trial principles and international law."
He added: "Despite the life sentence imposed on him and the passage of 25 years since his arrest, it is the right of the leader based on the Turkish constitution and international treaties to be granted hope, to be released, or to be placed under house arrest."
A legitimate demand for the defense of peace and freedom
For his part, lawyer Ala Mohammed Amin affirmed that "the demand to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan is a legitimate legal demand by all standards. Since the founding of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, until today, the leader has not stopped defending oppressed peoples and demanding freedom and justice."
He added: "Despite the repeated initiatives launched by leader Abdullah Ocalan from within his prison to advance the peace process, the Turkish state continues its repressive policies against the peoples of the region and rejects any political or peaceful solution."
He explained that the right to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan is based on two main reasons; the first being the legal reason, as the leader has surpassed seventy years of age, and according to international laws, those who reach this age are entitled to release for humanitarian reasons or to be placed under house arrest.
As for the second reason, according to Mohammad Amin, it is humanitarian, because leader Abdullah Ocalan is not just a political prisoner, but is seen as a voice of peace and a messenger of freedom, expressing the aspirations of the people of Kurdistan and the oppressed around the world.
