According to a report by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Iranian authorities have sentenced former political detainee and prisoners’ rights activist, Klarah Abbasi, to four years and three months in prison.
Abbasi, 49, a resident of Tehran, was convicted on charges of “collusion and assembly against national security” and “propaganda against the state.”
The verdict follows her arrest on February 19, when intelligence agents raided her home in western Tehran and transferred her to Evin Prison. During the raid, officers reportedly confiscated her mobile phone and electronic devices.
Sources close to Abbasi’s family indicated that her arrest was related to her involvement in selling handicrafts made by prisoners—an activity intended to support their livelihoods, which authorities deemed subversive.
On March 28, Abbasi was released temporarily on bail pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
