Citizens have been circulating footage on social media since Thursday evening showing conditions in several neighborhoods of Aleppo following the rainfall that hit the city, as flash floods and extensive pools of water formed across streets and roads.

The circulating videos and photos showed water levels rising on several roads, particularly in the Salah al-Din, Saif al-Dawla, al-Fayd and Karam al-Jazmati neighborhoods, as well as along the road stretching from the vicinity of Al-Afrah Sweets toward al-Hajj Bridge, affecting vehicle and traffic movement.

Other footage showed floodwaters covering parts of vehicles on some roads, while rainwater entered a number of commercial shops, including stores near Saad bin Abi Waqqas Mosque in the Salah al-Din neighborhood.

Citizens also circulated footage showing difficulties faced by motorists and pedestrians on several streets due to rising water levels, with rainwater entering public buses. Some means of transport were forced to change their routes to avoid roads where large amounts of water had accumulated.

Meanwhile, authorities in Aleppo said emergency response teams were continuing to address the effects of the rainfall and water accumulation by opening storm drains and culverts, clearing drainage networks using machinery and pumps, as well as towing stranded vehicles and removing obstacles from some roads.

The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management also announced early today that response operations had been carried out at 34 locations and residential areas in Aleppo and the Idlib countryside to address the repercussions of heavy rainfall and mitigate the resulting damage.

The rainfall in Aleppo has once again brought recurring complaints about water accumulation at several locations, particularly in the eastern neighborhoods, amid calls to address rainwater drainage networks and maintain roads and drains ahead of the intensification of the rainy season. Local reports have previously indicated that some locations repeatedly become waterlogged during rainfall.

The rainy weather continues to affect parts of northern and western Syria, with forecasts indicating that rainfall is likely to continue in the coming period.
