International Support Network calls on Committee against Torture to send delegation to Imrali
The international support network that launched the “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, political solution to the Kurdish issue” campaign sent a letter to the Chairman of the Committee against Torture (CPT), in which it reminded it of the situation inside Imrali Island and appealed to it to take action and take the necessary measures.
The international support network that launched the global campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, a political solution to the Kurdish issue” sent a letter to the Chairman of the Committee against Torture (CPT), Alan Mitchell, signed by 91 individuals and representatives of associations and institutions supporting the global campaign.
The letter highlighted "the imposed isolation practiced on Leader Abdullah Ocalan during the past 36 months, and there are attempts to turn Imrali into a coffin."
The letter stated: “leader Abdullah, who is 75 years old, is still captive and is subject to strict isolation, in addition to the fact that we have not received any information about his health condition for three years, and for this reason the Committee against Torture (CPT) was called to take its necessary measures.”
Article 3 of the Council of Europe Convention
It was also mentioned in the letter that the European Committee against Torture has the right to visit all prisons in Turkey, as it was requested to send a delegation within the framework of Article 3 of the Council of Europe Convention.
Send a delegation
In the letter, the network asked the European Committee against Torture to first send a delegation to Imrali, and then make efforts so that the lawyer of leader Abdullah Ocalan and his family can meet with him.
The network noted in the message that these developments would help address the urgent human rights issue that concerns millions of Kurds, and would also renew the spirit of compromise necessary to find a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.
