In response to Leader Abdullah Ocalan's appeal on 27 February of this year for peace, "peace and a democratic society," the People's Defense Forces (HPG) ended all military actions against the Turkish occupation forces within the Mediya Defense Zones in a gesture of good will.

Nevertheless, the occupation state of Turkey still maintains its insistence on homicide and violence. The HHP issued a statement on this month's 20th stating that the Turkish army conducted 360 air and ground attacks against the Mediya Defense Areas in southern Kurdistan in 72 hours using all types of weapons, including internationally banned weapons.

In this context, certain Intellectuals Union members within Jazira Canton, in the city of Girkê Legê, offered their views about the situation. Sheikhmus Juma said, "The Turkish state is well-known for its brutality and does not have any knowledge of the language of peace and humanity. Its solution is by means of violence and killing. In order to protect its state and nationalist ideology, it is trying to annihilate the identity of the people."

He added that the Kurds will not sign a formal peace without seriousness, citing most especially the call for Leader Abdullah Ocalan's physical freedom and the cessation of fighting against the People's Defense Forces (HPG).

Bradost Mitani, meanwhile, added that the Kurdish people are renowned for their enthusiasm for peace, and that war was imposed so that they could fight in defense of their principles.

He emphasized that the Turkish government is trying to buy time at the expense of the peace process, pursuing their attacks against the Mediya Defense Zones. Mitani urged the Turkish government to be genuine in negotiation, emphasizing that the real solution lies in sitting around the negotiating table.

Adnan Berko agreed with his co-rebels that the intention of Turkey is not peace, alluding to its genocide and murder record.

He explained that the Kurds have employed resistance in order to establish their cause and that without the freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan there can't be peace.
