UNDOF discusses measures to curb Israeli incursions with residents of Saida al-Jolan

The meeting also addressed mechanisms to facilitate farmers’ access to their lands near the separation line and enable them to harvest their olive crops as the season approaches. The delegation said it would look into the possibility of issuing special identification cards for farmers, similar to those previously issued in the town of Al-Rafid.

These developments come amid continued tensions in areas of southern Syria. On Tuesday evening, residential neighborhoods in the village of Maariya, in the western countryside of Daraa, came under heavy machine-gun fire from Israeli positions at the Al-Jazira military base, prompting an UNDOF patrol to head to the area to monitor and assess the situation.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had reported on September 1 that an UNDOF patrol entered the village of Jumla in the Yarmouk Basin area of western rural Daraa as part of a field patrol that had departed from the force’s base at Tal Abu al-Ghaithar.

These movements come amid continued Israeli incursions and military activity in the governorates of Daraa and Quneitra, alongside calls from local residents for an increased UNDOF presence and more frequent patrols in areas near the separation line.
