One detained, another questioned at Political Security branch

Two female detainees who were released, one of whom was imprisoned with her child, revealed the pretexts cited by the Syrian Transitional Government for their detention.

One of the female detainees released on Wednesday by the Transitional Government is Hala Hami Ebo, from al-Jaada village in the Manbij countryside. She worked with her family transporting agricultural workers between villages in the countryside.

Hala was arrested at a checkpoint operated by the Transitional Government in Manbij two and a half months ago and was held in a prison in the city.

Hala told ANHA agency that she was accused of recruiting young men into the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Hala spent most of her detention in Manbij with her three-year-old child. However, she did not know exactly which prison she was held in, as she was transferred there blindfolded. A few days before her release, she was transferred to a prison in Deir ez-Zor and then to Hasakah.

He was detained for checking on his sister

Katrine Qassem Issa, from Damascus, said she was staying with a friend in the city of Tabqa before being accused of joining the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Katrine explained that while traveling from Tabqa to Damascus, the vehicle she was traveling in was stopped. No prohibited items were found inside, but she was nevertheless detained.

Katrine added that after her detention, her brother came to ask for her release, but he was detained with her for seven days before being released. She noted that her interrogation continued.

Interrogation at security branches

Katrine noted that she was detained for one year and two months on charges of recruiting young men into the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). She said she was interrogated at the Political Security branch in Mezzeh before being transferred to a prison in al-Nabk, then to Deir ez-Zor and later to Hasakah.

The Political Security branch is notorious for being used by the Baathist regime to suppress its opponents and imprison them following sham trials.

Today, 49 detainees held by the Syrian Transitional Government were released in the latest operation to free detainees it has held since June.
