22 parties announce the formation of alliance for municipal elections

Representatives of 22 parties and women's movements held a press conference in which they announced the formation of an alliance under the name "Alliance of Peoples and Women for Freedom" in preparation for the municipal elections on the 11th of next June.

During the press conference held at the Democratic Union Party PYD building in the city of al-Hasakah, the statement issued by the coalition was read in Arabic by the co-chair of the Future Syria Party, Abdul Hamid al-Mahbash, and in Kurdish it was read by Kongra Star spokeswoman Rehan Luqo, and in Syriac it was read by Sufiya Youssef.

The text of the statement stated the following:

“After the announcement of the social contract for the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria at the end of last year, and the laws issued by the People’s Democratic Council, including the municipal law and the electoral law related to it, and the administrative divisions in North and East Syria, and setting the date of next June 11 as the date for municipal elections in the cantons seven for the region of North and East Syria, we, the parties, organizations and women's movements that signed this declaration, and with our free will and awareness of the nature of this sensitive stage that we are living in and which is passing throughout our Syrian country and the region, declare that the social contract of the Autonomous Administration is a historical reflection of the agreement of peoples, coexistence, and unity of destiny in the region of North and East Syria. Recognizing the necessity of participating in the electoral process for municipalities in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, which is scheduled to be held on the 11th June, we find it a qualitative step to develop the democratic system and local and autonomous administration of our peoples, and for municipalities to become and transform into examples in which societal values are expressed and consolidated. And communal life, and that the municipalities whose elections we are about to run are democratic municipalities that take the basic values and principles of the social contract as their guide and model in their work, and a pillar on which democratic politics is based to consolidate the democratic mentality. This is done through these municipalities that oppose all forms of authoritarian, centralized and masculine mentality. It also expresses the true role of women and their pioneering and pioneering struggle on the path to freedom in society, achieving change and democratic transformation, and developing the system of co-chairs.

 We, the political parties, women's organizations and movements with all our Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian components... declare with responsibility the duty and the right, which in turn reflects the awareness of the electoral process by participating together and running together for its success and strengthening the democratic contents of the electoral process in this alliance of ours, which is primarily launched with the aim of strengthening our internal front, which It insists, above all, on thwarting all goals that seek to undermine the gains achieved thanks to the blood of thousands of martyrs, daughters and sons of North and East Syria from its various national and religious components. Our alliance will also work to the best of its ability to move towards an advanced service reality based on building a free, democratic, ecological society with women’s leadership, and strengthening everything that paves the way towards self-sufficiency, a societal economy, and a healthy environment. Despite the challenges and difficulties we face from various aspects.

In order to enhance the success and development of democratic self-administration, and to establish security and stability in North and East Syria, we announce in our coalition (the Alliance of Peoples and Women for Freedom) the points of our electoral program, which are as follows:

1. Work to develop municipalities that manage themselves, express the interests and aspirations of the people, and enjoy possible administrative, financial, and economic independence.

2. Working to develop the service reality by establishing municipalities that operate according to a qualitative strategy capable of overcoming difficulties and obstacles in a clear and transparent manner.

3. Working to develop a radical treatment for areas that suffer from a scarcity of services and working to find urgent and possible solutions for them.

4. Work to develop municipal diplomacy and extend its ties between municipalities in North and East Syria and all Syrian regions, the region and the world; To enhance and develop the service reality, exchange experiences, and achieve sustainable development.

5. Work to develop a constructive policy that distinguishes the families of martyrs, prisoners and war-wounded and meets their possible needs.

6. Working to reach municipalities that start from developing women’s projects and enhancing their pioneering role in the gains achieved in the areas of autonomous administration.

7. Work to develop a specific strategy to confront and limit the desertification that threatens our regions, reach an environment that recovers from pollution, and strengthen the ties between the ecological municipalities in North and East Syria and the various institutions and organizations operating in Syria, the region, and the world.

8. Work on developing executable plans that aim to improve the reality of public and secondary roads.

9. Working to strengthen and develop productive cooperatives as a basic pillar of the community economy and self-sufficiency aimed at achieving a democratic communal society.

10. Work to develop effective plans that attract projects and investments towards alternative energy that improves the ecological reality.

11. Work to reduce bureaucracy and everything that hinders the management of citizens’ affairs and facilitate their daily and service transactions.

12. Work to activate the role of accountability and popular oversight by the Municipal Council, and combat incidents of corruption by playing an awareness role for municipalities and also by taking measures to deter this.

13. Combating the phenomenon of begging and working in particular to find radical solutions to protect children and open special centers for children.

14. Work to develop afforestation campaigns and increase green spaces.

15. Working to establish model villages. Reconsidering the organizational plans of cities and encouraging horizontal expansion therein.

16. Working in accordance with the principle of direct democracy and enabling the connection between municipalities and the people, their participation in decisions that affect them, and their support for the work and development of municipalities.

17. Working to encourage and supervise investments with the aim of serving and developing the service reality.

We affirm that in our alliance, we will do everything we can to achieve the goals we set above, and we will spare no effort to develop environmental democratic municipalities and improve the service reality for our people.
