According to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, at least 289 people were injured in the Israeli attack on Khan Yunis. The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that dozens of people were still trapped under the rubble due to the attack.

Israeli Army Radio stated that the target of the raid was Muhammad al-Deif, the leader of Hamas' military wing, who was hiding in an above-ground location within the humanitarian zone west of Khan Yunis and was seriously injured. It was also reported that the commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade, Rafi Salama, was killed in the raid.

Sources mentioned that al-Deif and Rafi Salama were in a civilian compound surrounded by a fence in the al-Mawasi area, according to the Israeli army. However, Hamas refuted these claims, stating that the Israeli army's assertions about targeting leaders in the movement were false.

In a statement, Hamas said, The occupation’s allegations about targeting leaders are false allegations. This is not the first time that the occupation has claimed to target Palestinian leaders, and their lies were later proven to be false. These false allegations are only meant to cover up the scale of the horrific massacre.
