The village of Umm al-Keif, located in the western countryside of Tal Tamr in the Jazira Canton, witnessed a tragic incident on Saturday afternoon as an explosive remnant from Turkish shelling detonated. The explosion led to the martyrdom of Hassan Thabet Al-Shallo (10 years old) and injured his brother Ali Thabet Al-Shallo (11 years old) and their cousin Waseem Suleiman Al-Shallo (9 years old).

The explosion occurred while the three children were playing near their homes in the village, which has been subjected to hundreds of shelling incidents by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries since 2019. Unexploded shells are scattered in the agricultural lands, posing a constant threat to residents' lives.

Health condition of the 2 injured

The two injured children were immediately transported to Tal Tamr Hospital and later transferred to hospitals in the city of Hasaka, where medical teams described their condition as “stable” following extensive efforts to treat their injuries.

According to the medical staff, Ali Thabet Al-Shallo sustained multiple injuries, particularly to the face due to shrapnel from the explosion. He underwent emergency surgery to remove the fragments.

Waseem Suleiman Al-Shallo suffered a severe injury that resulted in the amputation of his hand. He also underwent urgent surgery and is now in a “stable” condition.

Call to the residents to raise awareness among children about the dangers of war remnants

In this context, Mohammad Al-Shallo, the brother of injured child Ali, said the children had gone out to play as usual near their home. He added, “Suddenly, there was a massive explosion. We rushed to the scene and found Hassan had passed away, and Ali and Waseem were bleeding heavily.”

He pointed out that such incidents are recurring in this area, which has been subjected to many attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.

Meanwhile, Omar Saleh Al-Shallo, the father of injured child Waseem, warned parents and urged them to keep a close eye on their children and educate them about the dangers of war remnants to prevent future tragedies. He also called on the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to clear these remnants.
