Those affected by water blocking call on international community to pressure Turkey
Dozens of people from al-Tabqa city and its countryside organized a gathering today on the bank of the Euphrates River, to protest against the withholding of the river's water by the Turkish state, and called on the international community to pressure Turkey to release Syria's share of the river's water.
Dozens of residents and farmers affected by the decline in the Euphrates River level, as well as representatives of political parties and civil institutions participated in the gathering.
During the gathering, the statement issued by the people in this regard was read by Mustafa Al-Ajeli, a resident from al-Tabqa city.
The statement included: "In the name of the popular pressure campaign and on behalf of al-Tabqa people, We stand today on the banks of the Euphrates River, the river of generosity and dignity, which is the source of the continuation of life, and today it is beginning to end as a result of its tragic decline due to the Turkish state's blocking of the river's water."
The statement noted that what Turkey is doing today "reveals its true terrorist face, and today we address this statement to all activists, peace organizations and the international community, and we call on them to move to pressure Turkey to open the river's water and release Syria's share of the Euphrates."
The statement called upon the citizens to escalate activities and sit-ins to increase pressure on the Turkish state in order to respond to the demands of the people.
