Young man killed in landmine explosion while plowing his land in rural Aleppo

A young man was killed after a landmine exploded beneath an agricultural tractor while he was plowing his land in Tal Madhīq, in the countryside of Aleppo, amid the continued danger posed by landmines and remnants of war to civilians and farmers.

A young man was killed today after a landmine exploded beneath an agricultural tractor while he was plowing his land in the Tal Madhīq area of northern rural Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The explosion left the young man critically injured, and he later succumbed to his injuries in yet another incident caused by explosive remnants of war scattered across agricultural land and rural areas in Syria.

The Observatory said it had documented 260 deaths and 399 injuries since the beginning of 2026 as a result of explosions involving explosive devices and remnants of war, including among children and women. It called for intensified mine-survey and clearance operations, as well as expanded awareness campaigns, particularly in agricultural areas.
