Clash in Deir Hafer countryside leaves 5 dead, others wounded

ANHA correspondents, citing local sources, reported that an armed clash broke out late Tuesday–Wednesday night between members of the “Kaba” and “Al-Nasser” families in the village of Al-Halabiya in the Deir Hafer countryside east of Aleppo.

According to a preliminary toll, the clashes left five people dead and several others wounded.

The area is currently under heightened security alert, with tensions continuing between the two families amid mediation efforts aimed at calming the situation.

According to the information, tensions began yesterday afternoon with a fight between members of the two families, during which sticks were used. Each side then gathered relatives in the evening, leading to an armed confrontation and an exchange of gunfire that left people dead and wounded.

According to the information, the dispute dates back to a longstanding conflict over agricultural land and recently resurfaced over demands for compensation, amid the failure to reach a settlement to end the dispute.

The fighting comes amid a series of family and tribal disputes across Syria this year. According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 122 such clashes have taken place since the beginning of the year, leaving 108 people dead and 216 others wounded, including 205 men, eight women, and four children.
