step towards Kurdish unity: Mazloum Abdi stresses importance of PYD-ENKS meeting
The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, confirmed that the Kurdish parties, the PYD and ENKS, met today in Hasakah to develop a joint plan to achieve Kurdish unity. Abdi described the meeting as positive, noting that it is a step towards building a multi-ethnic, democratic Syria that guarantees the rights of all components, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening dialogue between the parties.
A meeting was held today in the city of Hasakah in the North and East Syria region between the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Kurdish National Council (ENKS), with the participation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi. The meeting was closed to the media.
It ended an hour ago, with both parties describing the content as "positive," without issuing any official joint or separate statement.
Meanwhile, Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), tweeted about the meeting on Twitter, saying, "Today, the two Kurdish parties, the PYD and ENKS, met to develop a joint plan and achieve Kurdish unity at the current stage."
Abdi added, "The positions and visions of both parties were positive and a source of satisfaction."
Abdi noted, "This meeting is a step towards achieving Kurdish unity and building a multi-ethnic, democratic Syria that guarantees the rights of all components."
Abdi expressed the parties' determination to strengthen dialogue, saying, "We are determined to strengthen this dialogue."
For her part, in response to the meeting, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Barwin Yousef, described the meeting as positive and emphasized that the meeting with the Kurdish National Council was merely a response to the Council's insistence on a meeting between the two parties, excluding other Kurdish parties.
She emphasized that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) will not take any step without the approval of the National Unity Parties and other Kurdish parties and forces, whether present or future. "We did not enter the meeting without consulting the National Unity Parties, and we will not reach an agreement without them."
Two days ago, the National Unity Parties and other political parties in North and East Syria held a meeting in which they noted the Kurdish National Council's insistence on holding a separate meeting with the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
The parties said in a statement that they are keen on the necessity of reaching a unified Kurdish position and see the possibility of holding such a meeting, as any party, including the Democratic Union Party (PYD), is free to meet with any party. They emphasized that "this meeting is not a substitute for the work and procedures of the preparatory committee for a Kurdish conference, nor will it be a substitute for the dialogue committees between the Kurdish National Council and the Kurdish National Unity Parties."
The parties called for a swift convening of a Kurdish conference and emphasized the necessity of achieving Kurdish unity at this delicate and critical stage facing Syria in general, and Rojava and North and East Syria in particular.
The conference of Kurdish political parties and forces in North and East Syria has been postponed, according to the latest information received. The reasons are due to the lack of time and the arrival of Newroz.
