For the third day in a row, residents of the Martyr Rustam Judy camp (Makhmour) continue their sit-in in front of an Iraqi army military post, rejecting the siege and arrests imposed by the Iraqi government on the camp.

The sit-in began two days ago to protest the repressive measures imposed on the camp, including preventing the entry of foodstuffs, preventing workers from reaching their jobs, refusing to renew residents' IDs, and demanding the release of the Makhmour People's Council delegation that was arrested upon returning from Baghdad after a meeting with the Ministry of Justice to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the camp.

Despite promises by Iraqi forces to release the detained delegation on May 15, no practical action has been taken so far, prompting the protesters to escalate their protest and emphasize their adherence to their demands.

It is noteworthy that Makhmour camp suffers from repeated sieges, the most recent of which was imposed by Iraqi forces on April 10, after it was previously besieged by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which increased the suffering of the residents amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
