Akram Al-Mahshoush: Killers of Sipan must be held accountable

The perpetrators behind the killing of Sipan Hazni, a fighter in the Hasakah Brigade, remain at large. An armed group abducted Sipan Hazni and killed him in a brutal manner on September 10.

Calls continue to grow for those responsible for the killing of Sipan Hazni to be held accountable and brought to justice.

In an interview with our agency, Jabour Tribe adviser Akram Al-Mahshoush described the killing of Sipan Hazni as an attempt to incite strife.

“It was motivated by an attempt to stir up strife. It was an organized crime carried out under the pretext of revenge. Everyone knows that revenge is an issue between clans and tribes, not between authorities and civilians,” he said.

“If we are going to talk about revenge, we also have around 15,000 cases of revenge in the region. But that incident aimed to inflame tensions between the Kurdish and Arab communities, and it was carried out by a group acting in the name of the tribes and under the pretext of revenge,” he added.

Al-Mahshoush praised the position taken by Sipan’s family “The martyr’s family took a commendable position. They showed responsibility and awareness, refused to be drawn into strife, and stressed that the killing of their son would not become a key to opening the door to further trouble in the region,” he said.

Al-Mahshoush also revealed that security cooperation was underway “with the tribes to determine who was responsible for luring Sipan into the incident.”

Group to Be Revealed Within Days

“There is a group that will be identified within days to determine who was behind the incident, uncover the circumstances surrounding Sipan Hazni’s killing, and establish what actually happened,” he said.

The Jabour Tribe adviser stressed the importance of awareness and responsibility in preventing attempts to fuel disputes or sow division among the region’s residents.

“Government Unable to Protect the Region”

In a related context, Al-Mahshoush questioned the role of the Syrian transitional government in the ongoing developments and criticized its weak performance in protecting the region.

“It does not have the capacity to play its primary role in protecting the region, given the developments taking place and the need for an effective role in maintaining security and stability,” he said.

“Language Is Not a Favor”

On another issue, Al-Mahshoush criticized the Education Ministry’s decision to allocate three classes to Kurdish language instruction, stressing that this “is not a favor from anyone, but rather a demand and a right for students to learn in their mother tongue, particularly given the sacrifices made by Kurds in the region.”

At the end of the interview, he stressed that “mother-tongue education is a fundamental right of students, not a favor or a privilege granted by any party.”
