A number of informed sources in the city of Aleppo reported that armed groups set up a number of temporary checkpoints around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and a number of entrances to the city of Aleppo.

They indicated that these groups are affiliated with the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation "al-Amshat", while other sources indicated that they are affiliated with the so-called "General Security" affiliated with the new Damascus authority.

Some checkpoints were monitored on the Sheikh Maqsoud - Baghdad Station road, along the road leading to the Al-Awaridh highway.

Sources confirmed that the checkpoints are working to stop all cars carrying the license plate of Kurdish-majority areas such as Afrin or the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and kidnap their passengers based on their identity, whether they are old or young.

According to ANHA agency's statistics and in communication with a number of civil and human rights organizations, 40 people have been documented as kidnapped so far, with information about larger numbers, without any charges being brought against them except that they are Kurds.

Human rights activists confirm that such practices violate the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance according to the United Nations Charter, in addition to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

It is noteworthy that in 2023 the US Treasury imposed sanctions on the leaders of the "Amshat" and "Hamzat" mercenaries for their involvement in committing serious human rights violations against the indigenous population in the occupied city of Afrin.

Among the crimes committed by the "Amshat" against civilians, especially women, was the crime of the village of Kakhra in occupied Afrin in 2024, including kidnappings, torture, and imposing a siege, in addition to cutting off means of communication between the residents and the outside world, which led to the emergence of local and international condemnation of the mercenaries' practices.
