Drinking water prices rise to 150,000 pounds per 1,000 liters in Hasakah countryside

Drinking water prices have risen in the Hasakah countryside, with the price of a 1,000-liter water tank reaching 150,000 Syrian pounds due to rising fuel prices, amid calls to resume operation of the Allouk water line.

The price of water transported by tankers has risen sharply in areas along the eastern route in the Hasakah countryside. A five-barrel tank (1,000 liters) now costs around 150,000 Syrian pounds, up from between 75,000 and 100,000 Syrian pounds, due to higher fuel prices.

The crisis has worsened in al-Hol and its surrounding countryside, which rely heavily on water tankers transporting water from Tel Brak over distances of up to 40 kilometers, following the suspension of water pumping from the Allouk station to the area for years.

A local source said the rising cost of water has exceeded the purchasing power of most residents, calling for a review of fuel prices and repairs to the water pipeline connecting Hasakah and al-Hol to restore the supply of Allouk water to the area.
