Media Department in AANES: Turkey targeting journalists, deliberate attempt to silence truth' voice

The Media Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria Region condemned the Turkey's targeting of journalists, stressing that it constitutes a flagrant infringement on press freedom and a deliberate attempt to silence the voices of truth, calling on the international community to take a firm stance.

A Turkish drone yesterday targeted a team of male and female journalists in the Sayed Sadiq area of Sulaymaniyah, killing journalists Gulistan Tara and Hiro Baha al-Din and injuring 6 other journalists.

The Media Department of the Democratic AANES issued a written statement, calling on the international community to take a firm stance against these ongoing violations by Turkey.

The statement began by saying: "The Turkish occupation state is still seeking to undermine and silence the voice of truth, as a Turkish drone on Friday targeted a car carrying journalists in the Sayed Sadiq area in Sulaymaniyah, which led to the martyrdom of 2 journalists and the injury of others, the role of the Turkish occupation state in seeking to strike the gains of peoples in the region has become clear to everyone, and no one is spared from their attacks."

The statement condemned in the strongest terms the aggressive act carried out by the Turkish state, which targeted a car carrying a group of journalists while they were performing their professional duty in the Sayed Sadiq area of Sulaymaniyah, explaining: "This barbaric attack is a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws that guarantee the protection of journalists and guarantee their right to report the truth without fear or threat."

The statement promised that targeting journalists while performing their duties is a crime that can't be justified in any way, and constitutes a flagrant infringement on press freedom, and a deliberate attempt to silence the voices of truth, as this irresponsible behavior reflects a hostile attitude to media freedom and human rights.

He called on the international community and human rights organizations to take a firm stance against these ongoing violations by the Turkish state, stressing their full solidarity with the targeted journalists and their families.
