Dozens of women and members of women's organizations in cities and towns of North and East Syria protested against the Turkish attack that targeted a car carrying journalists in the city of Sulaymaniyah in Southern Kurdistan, which resulted in the martyrdom of journalists Gulistan Tara and Hero Baha al-Din, and the injury of 6 other journalists, yesterday, Friday (August 23).

During the protests organized by (Kongra Star, Sara Organization for Combating Violence against Women, and Zenobia Women's Gathering), women raised banners against crimes committed against women, especially female journalists, "No to violating freedom of the press", "Together... No to violence against women", "Killing women is killing humanity".

Sara Organization for Combating Violence against Women organized protests in coordination with the Democratic Society Movement in (the city of Hasakah in the Jazira Canton, the city of Ain Issa in the Euphrates Canton, and al-Shahba) in which dozens of women participated.

These protests included the organization issuing a statement that began by condemning the brutal crime committed by the Turkish occupier, and pointed out that this crime is not the first, "as the Turkish occupier always targets women activists in its attacks, in all arenas, to frustrate the determination of women activists and resisters of its barbaric and destructive policy".

She stressed that such attacks will not break the will of women and will not discourage their determination to struggle against the occupier's ambitions and barbarity, but rather increase their determination and resistance with their revolution.

Girkê Legê

For its part, the Girkê Legê City Council in al-Jazira canton issued a statement condemning the attack on journalists, which was delivered by the administrator of the educational complex, Shahnaz Abdo.

The council pointed out that the Turkish occupation state continues its hostile policies with the aim of exterminating the people of the region, indicating that the targeting of journalists in Southern Kurdistan yesterday, Friday, is an attempt on its part to prevent the disclosure of its crimes against the people of the region.

Girkê Legê City Council, while holding the Iraqi government and Southern Kurdistan responsible for these attacks, called on women and residents of Southern Kurdistan to assume their moral and national responsibilities, to deter the attacks of the Turkish occupation and stop it at its limit.

In a related context, the Women's Coordination in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton issued a statement read by the spokesperson for the Education Authority in the Euphrates Canton, Suzdar Mahmoud, which began with: "As everyone knows, the Turkish occupation state insists on adopting policies of genocide and denial, and commits brutal practices against people, nature and all living things, and has been working for some time to gradually occupy Southern Kurdistan in alliance with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and in this context, it targets residents and citizens on a daily basis."

The Coordination indicated that the Turkish attack that resulted in the martyrdom of journalists Gulistan Tara and Hero Baha al-Din and the injury of 6 others aims to silence the voice of truth and right, and continued by saying: "We in the Women's Coordination in the Autonomous Administration condemn this attack that targeted a number of journalists, both male and female, and we offer our condolences to the families of the two martyrs and wish a speedy recovery for the wounded."

In a related context, the Zenobia Women's Gathering Council in Tabqa province issued a statement condemning the Turkish attack on journalists in the city of Sulaymaniyah in Southern Kurdistan.

The statement was delivered by Zenobia Women's Gathering Council member in Tabqa canton, Nourshan al-Issa, with the participation of dozens of members of the gathering, at the Zenobia Women's Gathering Council center in the canton.

The Zenobia Women's Gathering stated that the free struggle waged by women in the world and their attempts to reveal the truth of oppressive regimes have witnessed numerous attempts to suppress and suppress their voices, and this was evident in the recent attack that targeted journalists Gulistan Tara and Hero Baha al-Din.

It noted that the deliberate targeting of the two journalists was a clear message to target everyone who conveys the truth and exposes the war crimes committed by the occupation army, indicating that there is a comprehensive war targeting the "Women, Life, Freedom" revolution that has begun to spread in the world.

Following this, the Zenobia Women's Gathering called on all women who believe in the principles of freedom to be "one hand and one voice, take a unified position and form a solid barrier against attacks under the slogan (Woman, Life, Freedom)."

For its part, the Public Media Council of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) today condemned the crime committed by the Turkish state against the two journalists, and indicated in a statement that "the Turkish state is ranked third in the world in terms of the level of arrest and kidnapping of journalists, and has assassinated thousands of intellectuals, journalists and activists of our people under the name of unknown perpetrators, and today it is not only a threat to our people, but has become a threat to all of humanity and practices state terrorism in the region and the world, so all democrats and international institutions must demand that the leaders and officials of this fascist state be tried in the Hague Court."

It stressed that "the heinous terrorist act carried out by the Turkish state in assassinating the two journalists (Hiro Baha al-Din and Gulistan Tara on 23-8-2024) is the assassination of the tongue of truth and the seekers of truth among all of humanity and in the entire world." it pledged that "the martyrs Gulistan and Hero and all the martyrs of truth and freedom will remain immortal in our conscience, and that we will continue our struggle on their path in searching for the truth."
