The Damascus government blockade has led to a deterioration of the living conditions in the region in general, and a complete power outage, in addition to depriving students from education since last November 23.

The Deputy Co-Presidency of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Hamdan Al-Abd linked the siege imposed on Afrin, Shahba cantons, and the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods to the policy of changing the demographics of the region, and the efforts of the Damascus government and Turkey to defeat citizens will.

He stressed that the siege is part of the general siege imposed on all areas of the Autonomous Administration.

He cited the closed Tel Kocher/Al-Yarubiyah crossing between the Autonomous Administration areas and Iraq: “We found that the Damascus government, with a Russian and Chinese veto did not allow humanitarian aid to enter through the crossings in NE Syria for the people of the Autonomous Administration areas and the displaced and those displaced there.”

Al-Abd pointed out the stubborn policy of the Damascus government followed since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, which is the military option at the expense of the political solution to subjugate the people and return them to what was before 2011.

Al-Abd stressed the Autonomous Administration’s position on the necessity of opening the crossings, and resorting to dialogue away from militarization.

Al-Abd explained that the Autonomous Administration, from the first day, sent messages via media to the Damascus government on the one hand, as well as to the United Nations on the other hand, to end the siege on the regions of NE Syria in general, stipulating the necessity of opening the crossings, especially the Tal Kocher crossing, and ending the presence of security points between the regions of the two parties.

Hamdan Al-Abd called on the United Nations to shoulder its responsibilities, as well as the humanitarian organizations, towards the people of the besieged areas and those displaced from their occupied Syrian areas.
