Feminist institutions decry strongly death sentence cases against women in occupied areas 

The so-called courts of the Turkish occupation state in the occupied territories issued a death sentence against two women kidnapped in their detention centers, and life imprisonment for 8 other kidnapped women, according to a report published by the Violations Documentation Center.

In response to this, women’s organizations in North and East Syria ( Kongra Star in Afrin - al-Shahba canton, the Zenobia Women’s Gathering Councils in Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Manbij cantons, the Women’s Coordination in the Democratic Civil Administration of Tabqa canton, and the Civil Administration of Deir ez-Zor canton) condemned, through separate statements, that delivered statement today about the crimes and violations of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries against women in the occupied territories.

Kongra Star in Afrin - al-Shahba canton confirmed that the occupied areas have witnessed brutal violations against women since the Turkish occupation of the city in 2018.

Kongra Star considered the crimes of the Turkish occupation in the occupied territories, including forced disappearance, arrest, rape, deprivation of freedom and demand for ransom, to be war crimes in accordance with international criminal law and the Geneva Conventions, according to what was stated in its statement.

Kongra Star, through its statement, called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to intervene quickly to uncover the violations and crimes committed against women in the occupied territories, which target women, children, nature, and history, and to document and publish them in the media, and to hold their perpetrators accountable in accordance with international conventions.

For its part, the Council of the Zenobia Women’s Association in Raqqa canton said that the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries are “trying today to find Sharia courts for themselves,” referring to the death sentence issued against two kidnapped women in the detention centers of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in the occupied territories, and stressed that it is far from legal. It is contrary to all international laws, conventions and human rights.”

In its statement, the Council noted that women in the torture detention centers of the Turkish occupation state in the occupied territories were subjected to rape and assault, and said: “Just as ISIS did in the city of Raqqa, which became the capital of the alleged caliphate, where they practiced the most severe forms of violence against women, and we are not surprised by this, as ISIS was formed by Turkey."

It called on international organizations and human rights organizations to stand up to these violations and massacres committed against women and hold their perpetrators accountable, and demanded that they adopt a strict stance against these violations.

As for the Council of Zenobia Women’s Gathering in Manbij canton, it said in its statement: “The violations committed by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in Afrin are increasing day after day in the face of the silence of countries that embrace human rights and humanitarian organizations.”

It stressed that the crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries continue against women in the occupied territories, pointing out that the crime committed by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries against the fighter Barin Kobani and the mutilation of her body, and the assassination of the former Secretary General of the Future Syria Party, Hevrin Khalaf, will not be forgotten by anyone.

As for the Women’s Coordination in the Democratic Civil Administration of Tabqa canton, for its part, it confirmed that the violations and crimes of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries against women in the occupied areas “have no connection to humanity, and take place amid international silence.”

The coordination said in its statement that these policies are “not new to the Turkish fascist state that seeks to thwart our project and break the free will of women.”

Human rights organizations called for immediate intervention and an end to all violations against people in the occupied territories, especially women, calling on all women in the world to stand by the women’s revolution that fulfilled the aspirations of all women.

For its part, the Council of the Zenobia Women's Association in Deir ez-Zor said: “We women, from here and from this pulpit, say to the Turkish occupier, we will not submit to you and we will not submit to your failed and colonial attacks, and we will continue to resist and fight for our freedom and the freedom of all enslaved women.”

It added: "We call on all concerned parties to stand up to these attacks, and we tell them to stop remaining silent on this occupation and on this injustice committed against women. We, the women's movements, will continue to resist this injustice until the last breath, following in the footsteps of the martyrs and the path of freedom."
