The recent decision by Iranian authorities to execute Sharifa Mohammadi and Kurdish journalist and women’s rights advocate Bakhshan Azizi has stirred outrage among women, activists, and journalists who have condemned the decision and called for its immediate reversal.

Today, a group of journalists in S. Kurdistan announced that the death sentences for Bakhshan Azizi on July 23 and Sharifa Mohammadi on the fourth of the same month represent a blatant violation of human rights and personal freedom.

The activists stated in a statement reported by Roj News that the sentences were based on charges related to "immorality" through "membership in groups opposing the regime," highlighting the extent of the repression faced by female activists in the region.

The journalists called on "all activists and journalists in the Kurdistan Region and around the world to stand in solidarity with Bakhshan Azizi and Sharifa Mohammadi and to confront these repressive policies implemented by fascist and dictatorial regimes against women," emphasizing that these activists are symbols of the struggle for women's freedom and that the international community must take a firm stance against such harsh sentences.

The journalists noted that this decision poses a serious threat to women and warned that repressive policies could worsen the situation for women in the region if not effectively addressed.

They stressed the need for broad support for women's fundamental rights and freedoms in Kurdistan, calling for enhanced efforts to confront these threats and protect women's rights throughout the region.
