6 ISIS leaders were killed in a military operation in the Anbar Desert, Iraq, according to the Joint Operations Command.
In a statement, the Joint Operations Command in Iraq announced that they had managed to kill prominent ISIS leaders during a military operation in the Anbar Desert, noting that "the operation followed six months of surveillance through a series of security meetings to track ISIS leaders."
The statement added that "the operation was carried out based on precise intelligence information, with continuous technical and field efforts by the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, supported by technical and logistical aid and intelligence-sharing from international coalition advisors, and coordinated and monitored by the Joint Operations Command."
The operation began at dawn on Thursday, August 29, targeting ISIS headquarters in the Anbar Desert. It was followed by three ground operations and an airdrop of airborne forces, planned and supervised by the Joint Operations Command.
These operations resulted in the killing of 14 ISIS militants, including six top-level ISIS leaders. Weapons, equipment, and logistical and technical materials were seized. Additionally, more than 10 suicide belts and several explosives were safely detonated, and seven different vehicles used by ISIS leaders were destroyed and burned.
