Imrali detainees’ siblings submit new request to meet them

Today, leader Abdullah Ocalan's brother, Muhammad Ocalan, through his lawyer Mazlum Ding, along with the brother of detainee Omar Khairi Kunar, Ali Kunar, the brother of Hamili Yildirim, Bulat Yildirim, and the sister of Veysi Aktaş, Meliha Aktaş, have submitted a new request to the Republican Prosecutor's Office in Bursa, Turkey, and the Imrali Prison Directorate to meet with them.

Lawyers from the Al-Asr Human Rights Office submit two requests each week to the Prosecutor's Office in Bursa and the Imrali Prison Directorate. Their relatives also submit two requests each week, totaling 16 requests per month, without receiving any responses.

Responses from the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, and the CPT to messages regarding leader's isolation

The Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) responded today to messages regarding the isolation imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan sent by Professor Karianne Westrheim of the University of Bergen on behalf of 69 Nobel Prize laureates.

Marialena Tsirli, the official at the European Court of Human Rights, expressed her gratitude for Westrheim highlighting the situation of leader Abdullah Ocalan and his conditions in prison.

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of Lithuania, also responded to Westrheim's message to the Committee of Ministers, stating that the issue of leader Abdullah Ocalan's detention conditions will be investigated at the 1507th Committee meeting, and that the Committee will continuously monitor whether member states fulfill their commitments or not.

It is noted that the last meeting with the leader by his lawyers, Rezan Sarija and Newroz Uysal, was on August 7, 2019, while his last contact with the outside world was on March 25, 2021, during a 5-minute phone call with his brother Muhammad Ocalan before the call was cut off.
