Arab League condemns continuation of military operations in Libya

In a statement issued on Friday, the General Secretariat expressed its deep concern at the Libyan parties' attachment to the continuation of the fighting despite its previous announcement of its willingness to abide by the humanitarian truce called for by the United Nations and supported by the Arab League and many other regional organizations interested in the Libyan issue, and the urgent need to stop the military actions so that the Libyans can devote themselves to confront the growing risks of the spread of the Corona virus in various parts of the country as advocated more than once by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League.

The General Secretariat has also expressed its concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Libya due to the continued fighting between the Accord Government and the National Army around the capital, Tripoli, and other cities in the west of Libyan.

The General Secretariat of the Arab States League renewed its demand to spare the civilians from the scourges of the ongoing battles and to refrain from targeting the residential areas, economic facilities and health foundations, or to cut off the water and electricity supplies to the population, or to carry out any reprisals in the areas where control is switched between the conflict parties.
