According to the Ministry of the Interior, about 15,000 people participated in demonstrations across France today. The Ministry described the situation as "generally calm," noting that no significant incidents occurred during what was the third day of protests within a three-week period.

The Ministry reported that 27 individuals had been detained as of 2:00 PM local time, a sharp decrease from the 217 arrests made during last week’s demonstrations.

In a related development, two French student unions have called for the closure of high schools and universities this coming Tuesday and Thursday, in protest against the state of the education system and to demand improvements to study conditions and the infrastructure of educational institutions.

Speaking during a march in Paris, Sabrine Kharbash, a spokesperson for the two unions, stated that students intend to carry out these closures before joining a larger demonstration scheduled for November 5 an action supported by labor groups and trade unions.

Riad Rani, head of a French student union, emphasized that the demands center on securing decent study and living conditions, as well as establishing a national plan to upgrade educational buildings and facilities.

This new wave of protests comes approximately six months before the French presidential election, at a time when student and labor movements continue to push for reforms in the education sector and improvements to social conditions.
