UN Assistant-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Marc Lokoc told the journalist that the United Nations needs an additional 1 billion $ each year to provide humanitarian aid in Yemen

He explained that in 2017 the United Nations needed two billion $ and in 2018 to three billion $, to meet the relief needs in Yemen.

"We do not have a cessation of fighting" on the ground, even though the intensity of the fighting seems to have receded, Lokoc said. He hoped that the ongoing peace negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations in Sweden between the parties to the Yemeni conflict would succeed.

Lokoc confirmed that the port of al-Hodaida of the Red Sea, which is under intense debate in Sweden, "has a crucial role" in delivering humanitarian aid to Yemenis.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is worsening as its people suffer the worst famine in the world as a result of the four-year war between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.
