De Mistura arrives in Damascus on his last visit

The spokesman for the United Nations, Farhan Haq, said in a press conference that De Mistura will remain "a few days" in the Syrian capital, but did not specify the officials of the Syrian regime who will meet them.

The visiting which comes at the invitation of the sultan of the Baathist regime, is the last visit to De Mistura, who has announced last Wednesday that he will leave office at the end of next month.

De Mistura is expected to discuss with the officials of the Syrian regime the formation of a committee to draft a new constitution for Syria based on the results of the Sochi meeting held at the end of January this year in the presence of representatives of the Syrian regime and Turkey as a representative of its mercenary gangs amid the absence of Syrian actors on the ground.

The UN plan stipulates that the constitution drafting committee should include 150 members, 50 of whom are representatives of the regime, 50 of the groups supported by Turkey, and 50 selected by the UN envoy. So far, the UN envoy has made no progress in his mission.

"I will leave my post in November," de Mistura told a UN Security Council session. "I invite my guarantor to consult with me before the end of the month in Geneva."
