Syrian-Kurdish musician Mahmoud Barazi honored at Sulaymaniyah International Film Festival due to his role in developing Kurdish music and combining Kurdish traditional instruments with modern arrangements.

Syrian-Kurdish musician and composer Mahmoud Barazi honored at the sixth edition of the Sulaymaniyah International Film Festival held in the South Kurdistan region, in appreciation of his role in enriching and developing Kurdish music.

Barazi has been known to combine the traditional Kurdish musical instruments with modern musical arrangements. Barazi also worked with the "Hunergeha Welat" association and "Komîn Film" on producing and distributing the musical compositions and traditional songs.

The Syrian-Kurdish musician launched his music career in the year 1994 in the city of Serekaniye. The musician who comes from Kobani received his first musical training from the famous Kurdish poet and composer "Bi Behar". Later he has trained himself how to play various musical instruments such as tanbur and bouzouki before moving to other ones like cello.

The sixth edition of the festival kicked off in the city of Sulaymaniyah yesterday, Wednesday, and runs until September 15, featuring the participation of over 100 local and international films.
