Counting, manual sorting of votes continue in Iraq

The High Electoral Commission continues the process of manual counting and sorting of the votes of the legislative elections witnessed in Iraq in May12 which began a week ago in Kirkuk governorate north of the capital.

Laith Hamza, the spokesman for the Independent High Electoral Commission which is composed of 9 judges appointed by the High Judicial Council instead of the former members of the Commission on the basis of suspicions of fraud said that the manual recount process of the ballot boxes for polling stations and centers that were complained about in Basra, Maysan, Zi Qar, al-Muthanna, al-Qadissiya and Wasit in the south of the country continue in Baghdad.

The Independent High Electoral Commission announced on June 24 that the recount would be partial in the areas where complaints were lodged inside and outside the country.

It pointed out that it has ordered to transfer the questionable funds to allotted places in Baghdad.

The official in the Commission in Baghdad Emad Jamil told France press agency (AFP) that counting and sorting processes in the capital will include about 500 polling stations.

Journalists existed from the early morning in front of the operation's headquarters at Baghdad International Fair in the center of the capital were not allowed to enter the site, except for the Iraqi official television.
