Khatami warned of corruption's dangers

The former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami said that his country had retreated 100 years concerning democracy and justice.

Khatami said that he regretted the country's state saying, "100 years ago, Ayatollah Nayini defended the rights and existence of Christians, Zoroastrians and Jews in the parliament in the event that Iran today is backward and prevents the presence of non-Muslims even in the city’s council."

The former president urged the reformist clerics to return to the principles and address the spread of corruption which threatens Iran and the Iranian revolution as "flood" as he expressed it.

Khatami warned of the dissatisfaction of the people after last January's turmoil blaming all agencies and government bodies for what happened.

Khatami also criticized the reformists and demanded them to interact with all national forces to bring about the desired change and return the country to democracy.

In the recent years, Khatami has been curtailed from media appearance, and the publication of his pictures or name in the press and the media inside Iran has been banned.

The Iranian judiciary dissolved the Participation Front Party, the political party closest to the reformist government headed by Khatami.
