Politicians, academicians: Turkish occupation of Afrin is illegitimate

A number of politicians and academicians agreed that the Turkish occupation of Afrin is illegitimate, and they called for ending the Turkish occupation of Afrin immediately without conditions, and that took place during a conference held at the center of the European Parliament.

Politicians and academies held a conference at the European Parliament’s center on Thursday as they discussed the Turkish occupation of other areas, especially Afrin.

Jurists, academicians and politicians participated in the conference. The attendees evaluated Afrin’s status quo and before its occupation. During the conference, the Western counties have been criticized about their silence, and the attendees called for the international forces to do their responsibility.

The conference resulted in 9 pointes adopted by the attendees. According to that, the conference announced that Turkey’s occupation of Afrin is illegitimate.

The conference also agreed that the Turkish occupation of Afrin is contrary to all the goals of the United Nations (UN), as well as the attendees denounced the Turkish occupation.

The points adopted unanimously are as follows:

1- The Turkish forces and their gangs must withdraw from the Syrian lands immediately without conditions.

2-The violations practiced by Turkey in Afrin that opened the way for displacement must be investigated and denounced.

3 The children and the people that were kidnapped must be released soon, in addition to finding solutions for the damage they have been inflicted to.

4- An investigation must be held about the damage happened.

5- An independent law commission including representatives of the Syrian Human Rights Body and the women organizations must be formed to find the facts and investigate the violations that have been committing since the beginning of the Turkish attack against Afrin in January 20, 2018, and the perpetrators must be judged in the international courts.

6- The cooperation with the Syrian Human Rights organizations to deliver the issues of violations that have been committing by Turkey since it has launched the attack against Afrin.

7- Getting the people who left Afrin back to their homes safely.

8- All the concerned institutions must provide Afrin people with the humanitarian and economic aids.

9- The racism followed in Afrin by Turkey that led to forced displacement, and the demographic change that it practices in the area must be examined, in addition to preparing documented reports about that.
