Al-Jazeera people commemorated struggler Zilan

Under the slogan, “Women, Revolt for Afrin” and “Revolt, Fight, and Liberate Afrin,” Star Conference and Young Women Union organized a commemorating a ceremony for the struggler Zilan, and hundreds of al-Jazeera region people attended it. Moreover, the ceremony held in Baylassan Hall in Amoda district.

The ceremony started with holding a minute of silence. Then, the administrator in Kongra Star Mezgin Ahmad said, “The guerilla operation that took place by the martyr Zilan was for the sake of all women’s freedom and the oppressed peoples, and in response to the crimes practiced by the Turkish occupation against the Kurdish people.”

Mezgin pointed out, “The way of freedom and revolution demands sacrifice, and resistance and sacrifice continue to this day. The last commando was Avista Khabour that followed the footsteps of Zilan.” Mezgin added, “The revenge for all the martyrs would be in the near future.”

The administrator in the Young Women Union Jinda Qamişlo said, “The struggler Zilan cracked down the Turkish enemy and the conspiracy that was plotted against the leader of the democratic nation Abdullah Ocelan, and Zilan have become an example for all free women.”

It is worth mentioning that the struggler Zilan whose real name is Zenab Kenaji carried out a guerilla operation against the Turkish occupation army while they were raising their flag on June 30, 1996 in Dersim city (North Kurdistan), during which, 18 officers with high level were killed and 21 others got wounded.

In the same context, the Young Women Movement organized commemorating ceremonies at the center of Rojava Youth Union in Dêrik city in Qamişlo canton to commemorate the struggler Zilan, and hundreds of the members of the Young Women Movement and the people attended the ceremonies. Furthermore, the pictures of the struggler Zilan and the Kurdish flags and symbols were hung in the hall.
