De Mistura office announced UN’s receiving list of candidates for constitutional committee

The Office of the UN Envoy to Syria, Stephan de Mistura, announced that the United Nations (UN) has received the list of candidates for the constitutional committee by the Syrian regime, and confirmed that it is carefully studying them.

The Office of the UN Envoy to Syria, Stephan de Mistura, announced that the United Nations has received a list of candidates for the Constitutional Committee by the Syrian regime, adding that the United Nations is considering them carefully.

The Syrian regime handed over a list of the names of the members of the committee discussing the current constitution that are supported for the ambassadors of Russia and Iran to Damascus.

Observers believe that Russia has put pressure on the regime to accept the nomination of representatives for itself to the Constitutional Committee and that the Russian interest, in the need to accelerate the formation of the Committee, hides behind political objectives.

The formation of the Constitutional Committee is considered one of the decisions taken by Russia, Turkey and Iran among themselves, and imposed on representatives of the Syrian regime and groups related to Turkey that claim to be opposed at the Sochi meeting which was held in Russia.
