YPJ renew their pledge to Shengal s' martyrs, affirm commitment to freeing the captives

The Women’s Protection Units renewed their pledge to the martyrs of the Sinjar massacre, committing to follow their path and uphold the noble values for which they sacrificed their lives. They affirmed their determination to continue the struggle until full freedom is achieved for all women, foremost among them the abducted Yazidi women.

On the 11th anniversary of the Shengal massacre carried out by ISIS mercenaries against the Yazidi community on August 3, 2014, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) reaffirmed their commitment to follow the path of the martyrs and protect the noble values for which they sacrificed their lives. They emphasized their ongoing struggle to achieve full freedom for women, foremost among them the abducted Yazidi women.

The YPJ recalled the failure of the Iraqi state and the Kurdistan Regional Government to protect the Yazidis during the genocide, noting that Kurdish freedom fighters responded heroically by defending Shengal and establishing humanitarian corridors despite severe challenges.

They highlighted the targeted nature of ISIS’s attacks against women through killing, kidnapping, enslavement, and exploitation as an ideological assault on women’s freedom. The Yazidi women have led the resistance, fighting to preserve their dignity and identity.

Despite the ongoing captivity of hundreds of Yazidi women by ISIS, YPJ fighters have rescued many and pledge to continue their liberation efforts alongside the broader fight for women’s freedom in Syria.

The statement concluded with a renewed vow to honor the martyrs and uphold the promise of a free homeland for the Yazidi people, guided by the vision of Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA and collective defense.
