Hassan Taher, 64 years old, from the city of Qamishlo, met Leader Abdullah Ocalan in Damascus in 1994, and he spoke to ANHA agency about the conversation that took place between them at that time and the details of their meeting.

Hassan Taher pointed out that he knew Leader Ocalan from his books, but meeting him personally and speaking with him strengthened his patriotic sense, and he said: “He told us, ‘I do not consider myself a leader, but rather I consider myself a thinker, so I was confused by that, and found that remarkable.”

Many questions were asked to Leader Ocalan during the meeting, to which the leader replied: “I believe that my books are sufficient for the Kurdish people, and the surrounding peoples as well, to benefit from them.”

Taher mentioned that Leader Ocalan spoke about the qualities and advantages of leaders, saying: “If someone who considers himself a leader can't leave hundreds of leaders after him, then he can't be considered a leader. I believe that the revolution will continue after my departure as well, and I am confident in what I left after me.”

Hassan Taher shed light on the details of their meeting, saying: “The leader was very interested in details. He was looking at us, and his facial expressions showed caution, was carrying out more than one task together. While he was eating, he was also listening to the radio and reading a letter sent to him. In addition to all that, he was watching our session and following up with us.”

Hassan Taher continued his speech by saying: “The leader is physically arrested, but he is present among us in his thoughts. We read his books and benefit from them, and we demand his physical freedom, and the people must embrace his cause and understand him well.”

He added: "I always say that if one person in the world remains with the Kurdistan Workers' Party, I will be the second. The Kurdistan Workers' Party and Leader Apo have become a part of our being and our memory and can't leave us. We have pledged not to abandon the path of the martyrs.”

Hassan Taher, resident of the village of Doda in the Amuda district, became acquainted with the Kurdistan Liberation Movement in 1982, and his brother Karim (Abbas Taher) joined the ranks of the movement in 1986, then was martyred in the Sarhad area in 1992, while his sister Rayhan (Khadija Taher) joined the ranks of the movement in 1991, she martyred in Merdin in 1993.
