U.S. and Israeli intentions to resettle Gaza residents in Syria
The U.S. and Israeli authorities have expressed interest in the possibility of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip in Syria, according to a report by CBS News citing its sources.

CBS News reported that the U.S. administration attempted to establish contact with the Syrian authorities on this matter through an intermediary.
Another source confirmed that a request had been directed to the Syrian authorities but did not specify whether any response had been received.
The network also quoted what it described as a "high-ranking Syrian official" denying that Syria had received any requests from the United States or Israel regarding the resettlement of Gaza residents.
Previously, authorities in Somalia, Somaliland, and Sudan stated that they had not received any offers from the United States or Israel regarding the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza.
On February 4, former President Donald Trump announced for the first time that Washington was considering long-term control over the Gaza Strip and the resettlement of its Palestinian population in other countries in the region.
Trump's plan faced criticism not only from Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, but also from Arab leaders and Western nations.
In early February, Egypt announced that it was preparing a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza as an alternative to the U.S. president’s vision, which does not include the evacuation of Palestinians from the enclave. This document was presented at the Arab League summit on March 4, where it was unanimously approved. It was also presented on March 12 to U.S. Special Envoy Stephen Whitkoff during his meeting in Doha with the foreign ministers of several Arab states.
