UN delegation visits Deir ez-Zor to assess development and humanitarian needs

The Executive Council of Deir ez-Zor Canton received a delegation representing United Nations offices and international organizations. This meeting is part of efforts to assess the humanitarian and development situation in the canton and develop practical plans to support the services provided to the region's residents by the administration.

The meeting was attended by the co-chairs of the Education and Health Body, the Agriculture and Livestock Committee, the Agricultural Community Development Company, international organization offices, relief, the Department of People with Disabilities, the Department of Camp Affairs, and the Directors of Mills and Bakeries and Water.

The UN delegation included representatives from the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the urgent needs of the people of Deir ez-Zor Canton in various sectors, with a focus on the humanitarian situation. The meeting resulted in several recommendations and decisions, including:

Health Sector:

Focusing on supporting hospitals and health centers after some organizations stopped providing aid, and establishing a follow-up mechanism to ensure the continuity of medical services.

Education Sector:

Training teaching staff, improving the quality of teaching, providing school supplies, and supporting school infrastructure.

Agriculture and Livestock Sector: 

Enhancing agricultural production and studying ways to compensate for the shortage of subsidized flour.

Water Sector:

Improving clean water provision services and addressing sanitation problems.

Camp and IDP Support:

Studying camp needs and coordinating support with the World Food Programme
