SDC and British officials emphasize importance of national dialogue 

As part of efforts to enhance international cooperation to push forward the political solution in Syria according to UN Security Council Resolution 2254, the co-chair of the Relations Office in the SDC, Hassan Mohammed Ali, met with several prominent British officials.

According to the official website of the SDC, the delegation discussed with members of the House of Lords and MPs ways to support the political solution process in Syria, on the sidelines of the British Labour Party’s annual conference in Liverpool.

The discussions between the two sides focused on the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive settlement that guarantees Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom and dignity.

In another meeting with member of the House of Lords, Frances O'Grady, the co-chair of the Relations Office gave a comprehensive explanation about the situation in Syria, stressing the importance of supporting inclusive national dialogue and activating the international community's role in overseeing a political process that leads to a permanent solution to the crisis.

He also met with MP John Mann, who emphasized the need to strengthen Britain’s role in supporting UN efforts to implement Resolution 2254, noting that the formation of the new government in the UK could provide an opportunity to renew commitment to solving the Syrian crisis.

In a related context, the SDC delegation also met with MP and Undersecretary of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Government, Feryal Clark, and both parties discussed the potential to activate the British role in supporting stabilization efforts in the region.

The discussions also touched on the challenges facing NE Syria, including the ongoing Turkish threats and their impact on regional stability and counterterrorism efforts.

Hassan Mohammed Ali conveyed a detailed overview of the situation in the region, highlighting the security and humanitarian challenges, including the presence of thousands of ISIS mercenaries. He emphasized the need for diplomatic pressure on Turkey to stop its threats and called for a more active role from Western powers.

The two sides also discussed ways to activate Britain’s role in supporting the management of prisons and camps that house ISIS mercenaries and their families, as well as the possibility of bringing the Syrian issue back to the forefront of the British government's agenda.

The visit concluded with the SDC delegation emphasizing the importance of such meetings in mobilizing international support to resolve the Syrian crisis, underscoring the need for joint efforts to ensure a safe and stable future for all Syrians.
