Druze notable: Current efforts focus on protecting Swedia from any exploitation of security incidents

In light of the rapidly unfolding events in Swedia city, particularly in the security file, ANHA's agency conducted an exclusive interview with media activist Fadi Badriya, one of the most influential figures in the province, to discuss the latest developments and the current relationship with the government.

Badriya stated that recent events in Swedia, most notably the escape of three detainees from the interim government, revealed a security failure that requires investigation and review.

He emphasized that the province is going through a sensitive phase that requires cooperation among various social and civil actors to maintain stability and prevent any attempts to destabilize the internal situation.

Badriya said that the so-called “popular uprising” that took place in Swedia came as a reaction to the incident, describing it as a form of “self-criticism.”

He pointed out that the people of Swedia mobilized spontaneously and without prior coordination to demand clarification of the circumstances and accountability for those responsible, driven by a desire to protect society in accordance with prevailing customs.

In his assessment of the security situation, Badriya argued that what happened indicates a security breach, and that the role of security agencies is not limited to responding after incidents occur, but also includes having prior intelligence that enables prevention or mitigation.

He called on those in charge of the security file to reconsider security procedures and strengthen the ability to gather information and monitor any activities that could pose a threat to the province’s safety.

He also pointed to controversy surrounding certain entities or groups operating under security-related names within Swedia, calling for efforts to focus on protecting society and preventing internal strife and divisions, away from personal vendettas or unsubstantiated accusations.

Regarding regional developments, Badriya said he does not believe that current events in the region are the main factor in what is happening in Swedia, noting that internal problems are currently more influential.

He added that some parties attempt to link the province’s situation to regional or external files, but he believes the main challenges stem from within, whether through local disputes or attempts to influence public opinion via social media.

He noted that Swedia is facing attempts, in his view, to influence the positions of some actors and individuals through what he described as “political money,” which has contributed to a state of division among some local parties.

He criticized conditional support for certain initiatives or institutions, calling for any financial or social support to be channeled through clear and accountable mechanisms that serve the public interest.

Regarding relations with Damascus, Badriya confirmed that existing communication takes place through intermediaries and negotiation channels, noting a rejection of direct relations with the current authorities.

He also warned against any attempts to exploit the security situation inside the province to justify interventions or military measures against Suwayda.

Badriya revealed that meetings were held in recent days involving social, religious, and local figures in Swedia, aimed at discussing recent developments and exploring ways to contain tensions and address the consequences of the events.

He explained that these meetings focused on the need to unify efforts and involve experienced and qualified individuals in addressing security and social issues.

He called for avoiding rhetoric of betrayal and mutual accusations, stressing that any disagreements or criticisms of certain actors should be raised within appropriate frameworks and based on clear evidence, in order to preserve social unity and prevent further division.

The Druze notable Fadi Badriya concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of solidarity among the people of Swedia in the coming period, stressing that the province needs to strengthen internal cohesion and joint action to face current challenges. He expressed hope that ongoing efforts will contribute to greater stability and create conditions for addressing the issues facing the local community.
