Earlier in January, the Peoples' Democratic Assembly formed several committees to prepare draft laws, and determined the mechanisms for forming the High Electoral Commission, the Court for the Protection of the Social Contract, and the General Institution for Financial Supervision and Accounting.

In this context, the co-chair of the council, Farid Atti, told our agency, “We have prepared a draft law for the Social Contract Protection Court, the election law, the municipal law, and the draft work for the High Elections Commission.”

He added, "The names and proposals were also collected by the People's Democratic Council, the People's Councils, and the Justice Councils in the provinces, in order to form the Supreme Election Commission, and they will be approved in the coming days with the approval of the laws."

Farid Atti stated, "After completing the creation of these institutions and approving the laws and individuals, we will move to assigning the High Elections Commission to enter the field work arena in order to engage in the electoral process."

The Peoples' Democratic Council will complete these legal procedures during the months of February and next March, according to Atti.

Atti revealed that the elections for the councils and communes, then the executive councils and the peoples’ councils, will be held after the municipal elections are held in April of this year.

The co-chair of the People's Democratic Council attributed the delay in implementing the provisions of the social contract for North and East Syria to the Turkish attacks last January.
