The Paris Bar Association sent a protest letter to the Turkish Ministry of Justice, condemning the obstruction of the right to defense for leader Abdullah Ocalan and other detainees in Imrali Prison.

The Paris Bar Association issued a written statement yesterday regarding the restrictions on the defense rights of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the other detainees in Imrali (Veysi Aktash, Hamili Yildirim, and Omer Hayri Konar).

The association mentioned that they met with attorney Rezan Sarica from Al-Asr Human Rights Office on June 25, stating, "On June 25, 2024, the Paris Bar Association, represented by former Vice President Vincent Nior, met with our colleague attorney Rezan Sarica, in the presence of colleagues François Davidgean and David Andick."

The last visit of leader Abdullah Ocalan's lawyers was on August 7, 2019. Since 2015, there has been no meeting with the other three detainees. In total, 8 defense lawyers have not been able to meet with their clients physically, by phone, or in writing.

The statement concluded, "Our colleagues sent a protest letter to the Turkish Ministry of Justice, protesting these attacks that violate protection rights, fundamental freedoms, and human dignity. The Paris Bar Association is concerned about the condition of the four detainees in Imrali Island Prison and has joined the protest of the detainees' defense lawyers.”
