During the year 2023, the Syrian arena witnessed many developments, the most of which were the demonstrations of Suwayda and the rapprochement between Damascus and theTurkish occupation in addition to the earthquake and severity of the economic and living crisis in Damascus- held areas.

 Another year has ended, and the crisis continues to afflict the Syrians without any security, economic or political progress.

On February 6, the border region between Syria, northern Kurdistan, and Turkey was exposed to two violent earthquakes, affecting the cities of Syria, such as Aleppo, Latakia, and Idlib, causing a large toll of casualties.

March 14, Bashar al-Assad arrived in Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

March 19, Bashar al-Assad, accompanied by his wife, arrived in Abu Dhabi on an official visit.

On April 12, the Foreign Minister of the Damascus government, Faisal Al-Miqdad, arrived in Saudi Arabia.

April 15: The consultative meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq concluded.

April 16, visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Damascus to Algeria and Tunisia.

May 1, a new consultative meeting on Syria in Amman.

May 3, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrives in Damascus.

May 9, diplomatic missions resume between Saudi Arabia and Damascus.

May 10, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, the Turkish occupation,Iran and Damascus in Moscow.

May 18, Bashar al-Assad arrived in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

June 21, the 20th round of the Astana process around Syria ended.

 On July 3, Bashar al-Assad met in the capital, Damascus, with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

August 15, the Damascus government raised fuel prices for the third time in 2023.

August 17, popular protests broke out in the city of Suwayda.

August 20, demanding the people of Suwayda to overthrow the “Assad government.”

August 24, protests took place in the cities of Daraa, Latakia, Tartous, Deir ez-Zor, Hasaka, and Homs, against the Damascus government.

August 25, protests spread to Aleppo and the capital, Damascus.

August 31, Bashar al-Assad confirmed that the withdrawal of the Turkish occupation forces from northern Syria.

September 21, Bashar al-Assad arrived in China for his first official visit.

September 30, ISIS leader Mamdouh Ibrahim Al-Hajji was arrested.

September 30, reopening of the Syrian embassy in Riyadh.

October 5, attack against the Military College in Homs.

October 22, all flights to and from Damascus Airport were halted due to Israeli strikes.

October 25, the Damascus government raised the prices of cellular, fixed, and Internet services.

November 7, the Damascus government raised the price of a loaf of non-subsidized bread by more than 100%.

November 8, thirty members of the Damascus government forces were killed as a result of simultaneous attacks launched by ISIS in the Syrian desert.

November 10, Israel bombed Syria.

November 13, 34 Turkish occupation mercenaries were killed and more than 60 were wounded in Russian air strikes on targets in Idlib.

November 26, Damascus International Airport was out of service over Israeli bombing.

December 4, the People’s Assembly of the Damascus government sparked controversy after it approved a draft law related to the management and investment of movable and immovable funds confiscated pursuant to a final judicial ruling.

 December 7, the Ministry of Health in the Damascus government raised the prices of medicines, by rates ranging from 70 to more than 100 percent.

December 11, the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in the Damascus government raised the price of octane 90 gasoline to the consumer by 500 Syrian pounds per liter.

December 25, ISIS leader Abu Halil Al-Fadaani was arrested.
