Masoud Barzani warns Baghdad over attacks on Kurdistan Region

The President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, called on Baghdad on Sunday to take a decisive stance regarding the repeated attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region, asserting that statements of condemnation and investigative committees are no longer sufficient to stop what he described as attacks by outlaw groups.

In a statement, he said that the Kurdistan Region "has always distanced itself from being a party to the problems, tensions, and wars in the region, but this has not prevented the continuation of attacks targeting the region and the Peshmerga forces, threatening the lives and stability of the population."

He added that "the Kurdistan Region and Peshmerga bases have been subjected to dozens of attacks with missiles and drones, resulting in civilian casualties," noting that these groups have launched more than 450 attacks on the region and Peshmerga bases since the beginning of the recent war.

He noted that the party headquarters had also been subjected to five attacks recently, but they had remained silent "to avoid inciting public anxiety and anger," referring to the latest attack targeting the home of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in the city of Duhok.

He emphasized that the issue "is not about a specific house or headquarters," but rather represents a direct attack on the Kurdistan Region, stressing that these attacks constitute "a blatant aggression, a grave injustice, and an unjustified transgression" against the region.

He called on the Iraqi government to take a decisive stance, saying, "Either it declares its inability to restrain these outlaw groups, or it intervenes seriously to protect the state and takes firm measures to ensure that these attacks are not repeated."
