Kurdish Politician: agreement is good for blocking path to genocidal war

Kovan Kanou, Secretary of the Kurdish Democratic Roj Party in Syria, spoke to our agency regarding the agreement concluded between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government, which was announced yesterday.

Kanou recalled that the Kurdish people are an ancient and historical people living on their land in Rojava, adding: “Unfortunately, for a long time, Kurds have been targeted through conspiracies such as the suppression of the Barzani Revolution, the arrest of leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the crushing of the Sheikh Saeed Revolt, all in an effort to eradicate the Kurds. These conspiracies are still ongoing today in the four parts of Kurdistan.”

Kanou highlighted the Rojava Revolution, explaining that since its inception they have sought to guarantee the rights of the Kurdish people and the rights of all peoples living alongside them through the constitution. He emphasized that the current phase is one of securing rights within the future constitution.

He pointed out that the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government may not fully meet the aspirations of the Kurdish people or be commensurate with the sacrifices of the martyrs, stating: “However, it is good for preventing the outbreak of a comprehensive war.”

Kanou also affirmed that the Turkish occupying state, through its interventions in Syria, seeks to eradicate the Kurdish presence, concluding: “Let the Kurdish people know that the occupiers of Kurdistan will inevitably be defeated.
